Cross-border physical flows
Electricity moves freely around the interconnected grid, taking no account of borders between countries.
Physical flows are real-time exchanges of energy, observed at borders. They are distinguished from commercial flows, which correspond to the exchange programmes (nominated capacity) scheduled by market players using cross-border mechanisms.
The first graph shows the balance of flows on the two borders and therefore indicates whether the country was importing or exporting energy in each quarter-hour. Using the calendar, you can call up data for each of the past 365 days and select a reference date.
The next graphs below show the physical energy flows on the interconnections between the Belgian control area and the neighboring control areas. Each graph represents one border. A positive figure means that Belgium exports energy, while a negative figure indicates an import. The green curve shows the data for the same day, up to one quarter-hour before the page was opened. The grey curve shows the flows for a reference day (the previous day is shown by default). The vertical line indicates the current time of day. Using the calendar, you can call up data for each of the past 365 days and select a reference date.
